The Last Simple Living Toowoomba Workshop for 2017

Well, we are almost at the end of the year so our Simple Living Toowoomba group will be taking a break after the November workshop until after the Christmas holidays. We have been fortunate to have had some really interesting and informative workshops during the year and I am sure that next year will be another great year for our group.

The above photos were taken during past workshops in previous years.

We started the year off with jam making and since then have had workshops on permaculture, decluttering, Sashiko, sourdough as well as an excellent 'War on Waste' morning where we learned a lot about recycling and reusing as well as how to make beeswax wraps. We also moved to a new venue and are very thankful for the opportunity to be able to meet at the Range Christian Fellowship and use their kitchen facilities.

To finish off the year we have some mini-workshops organised and, if you live in our area, you are most welcome to come along. Margy has recently sent out an email about the morning with the following information:

As our November workshop will be last one for the year we are having some mini workshops and items for sale.  See below for details:

Christmas Workshops and Secret Santa

Date: 18 November
Time: 10-12 noon
Cost: Free
Where: Range Christian Fellowship, 15 Blake St, Wilsonton
What:  There will be three workshops that you can do on the day:
  • Margaret will show 4 different ways to tie furoshiki, a type of traditional Japanese cloth used for wrapping or carrying and she will also display her collection of furoshiki.
  • Racheal will show you how to blend quality salt with various herbs, spices and ingredients like vanilla. A very simple and versatile homemade gift option...especially for those who love to cook or are hard to buy for.
  • I will show you a simple way to gift wrap your presents.

On the day we will also have some items for sale:
  • Racheal will have some delicious vegetables from her market garden.
  • Margaret will be selling some crocheted dishcloths and facewashers.
  • Shiralee will be selling what she calls 'stocking stuffer' gifts. Felt book marks, felt brooches, felt angel ornaments, a couple of tea towels, hand painted greeting cards and painted ornaments. All at super low prices for present bargain hunters!
As it is our last event for the year instead of our normal swap we are going to have a Secret Santa.  If you would like to be involved please bring a small, wrapped, handmade or homegrown gift up to the value of $5 and we will have some fun exchanging gifts.

Also please bring along a small plate of food to share for morning tea.

RSVP: 15 November. You can fill out this Contact and Booking Form or email
simplelivingtoowoomba@gmail.com.
If you would like to be on Margy's email list and be notified of upcoming workshops then just email her and let her know. We should have our first workshop for 2018 in February and are hoping that a herbalist can come along and start our year off for us.

I often get comments that readers would love a simple living group in their area so why not start one and you can read how ours started if you haven't read the post before How to Start up a Simple Living Group. We only had three plus the presenter at our first workshop and now some of our workshops are packed.
I had the urge to make some soap yesterday but true to form lately there were some hiccups.  I will do a blog post about the drama soon so that I don't forget how I made this batch. I was able to salvage a few bars of soap and the rest has already been rebatched. At least it smells good ~ like peppermint chocolate so it shall be called 'Peppermint Chocolate Soap'. LOL!

Before I sign off please keep a lady I know and her hubby in your thoughts and prayers as Jane's hubby, Bluey has been taken to hospital and is in an induced coma. You can keep up to date on Annabel's blog post Prayer Request for Jane and Bluey. Just keep an eye in the comment section for updates.

Have a great weekend everyone!

  1. What a fabulous range of workshops you have, Chel. Lots to share and new skills to learn too. Wonderful! I ordered the special beeswax and resin blend to make my own wraps (the ones I've been using for a couple of years are pretty well ready to composting) so I'm looking forward to doing that soon. I hope Bluey will pull through, sending wises. Meg :)

    1. Yes Meg, we certainly have had a variety of workshops. If we meet someone who is good at something we ask them to do a workshop. I do hope Bluey will be okay.

  2. Prayers for your friend. Can't believe the end of the year is nearly here, do you think it's a sign of age to walk around asking "where did the year go?" ;)

    1. Kathy, time seems to fly when you get older. I am sure it went by so much slower when I was at school :-)

  3. I have been praying for Jane and Bluey Chel. Thanks for the prompt to check Annabel's blog for updates.

It is good to know you only had three people plus the presenter at your first Simple Living workshop. One often thinks of these things starting off with a bang rather than starting small and building.
